Though many said it would never happen, the biggest fight in Combat sports history is finally upon us.
Tonight boxing sensation, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather (49-0) will step inside the ring to take on two weight UFC champion Conor McGregor in his boxing debut. For Floyd, a victory would see him surpass the legendary Rocky Marciano at (50-0), while the brash Irishman McGregor will look to cause the biggest upset in sporting history by defeating Mayweather.
Can McGregor catch him with the big left? Or will Mayweather simply box his way to another master class victory? Many questions have been asked surrounding this fight, and many of boxing and MMA ‘s finest have had a thing or two to say about it.
here are the predictions for the fight.
Anthony Joshua, boxing heavyweight world champion
“I’m obviously with Conor. His style is completely different to what Mayweather has ever faced and it will be a big problem for him. I’m looking forward to seeing Conor landing that left hand. It will be sooner rather than later – within the first three rounds.”
Eddie Alvarez – UFC lightweight
“I think that Floyd is not just a better boxer but a smarter fighter, a championship level fighter. He is the better boxer but sometimes being better just isn’t enough because Conor will hit him with some unpredictable shots. Floyd has never fought a fighter like Conor or someone with that type of movement. Floyd is preparing well though and with the right game plan, comes the victory.”
Michael Bisping, UFC middleweight champion
“I think it will be an awesome fight. Anything can happen. I think Conor can win within the first three rounds maybe. I think he can beat Mayweather.”
Carl Froch, former super-middleweight world champion
“Mayweather wins for sure. I think in the fight Mayweather will play with Conor. I don’t see Conor landing a single punch.”
Joe Duffy, UFC lightweight
“I think McGregor will get inside Mayweather’s head and he is going to shock the world. I think he is going to knock him out early. I wouldn’t be surprised though if it goes the full distance and Mayweather wins. My prediction is McGregor to win via TKO.”
Amir Khan, former boxing world champion
“Mayweather all day long. He’s fought them all; he’s fought 12 world champions so my money’s on Mayweather.”
James DeGale, super-middleweight world champion
“The only thing McGregor has in his favour is power but he won’t have the same gloves as he has in MMA. That’s going to take a little bit of his power away. It’s not a mismatch and I’m excited to see it, but it’s Mayweather all day long.”
